Cador, Bethune Coach - Finalists for UNO Job

HBCU's know how to make things work with pennies, PWC's would fold if they had to go through what HBCU's do!

I think you would be surprised. There's an increasing amount of PWCs who are making things happen with pennies.

Good series on ESPN last week by the way about the financial implications of collegiate athletics, though wish they took the focus off of the "big schools" a bit more and focused on the schools who are really having a trying time (namely the schools who are cutting programs that are 75+ years old and still eliminating scholarships in other sports).

Them PWC peeps would be jumping from every bridge in the country! We are used to not having! It has always been like that! Their budgets and enrollment are much larger than HBCU's! I don't care what ESPN said, HBCU's don't receive the funds from alumni etc that PWC's do!

True USA today but at some point we need to join the Jefferisons in "move on Up". When we got a good thing.. Question, If SU can be as good as they are with Pennies what do yall think they can do with dimes?

You ever heard of Nicholls State? I believe they have greater funding issues and have smaller support than both Southern and Grambling...all the while, competing in a conference in which the Texas teams in the league have budgets two and three times theirs. I do not believe the SWAC has such disparity.

FYI - nearly $800k less in expenses than Southern.

And I did not say ESPN "said" anything. I just thought they were good reads related to the subject. Some of you guys like reading up on collegiate athletics and educating yourselves on things out there, so I thought I would mention it...

You're right. That's why PV will be bolting the SWAC really soon in hopes of joining the SLC. PV has outgrown the SWAC as it now stands stagnant. :read: Financially/travel/budget/regional matchups are very attractive while TxState/UT-SA bolt for FBS'dom (anticipating) :read: :

1. SHSU
2. SFA
3. McNeese
4. Prairie View A&M
5. UCA
6. Lamar
7. SELA
8. UTA
9. Northwestern
10. Nicholls

While keeping our tilt w/ Grambling @ the SFC in Dallas, if not an FBS Tx school (UNT, SMU, Rice, UofH, Baylor, et al). :) Assuming the 10 previous will have their football programs in order by 2010 (Lamar/UTA) :read:.

We have the infrastructure and we'll have the new stadium w/ fans to support such a move. :swink:

Where's Jafus?

In addition to funding, it also comes down to having the quality support people in place at universities to make decisions when it comes to garnering finances, marketing and hiring coaches. That is the second biggest differences between HBCUs and BCS school. Also, I think we would have to look at other schools with similar enrollment numbers and see what those numbers are.

OK TT you have stirred up all this drama now let everybody know that Petty is going to get the job this week, UNO just wants to interview some minorities to get Representative Richmond off their back.

Please tell us how PV has outgrown the SWAC! I would love to hear this!:lecture:

P has been sippin this Sunday! PV is barely competing in the SWAC, that move will kill them! See FAMU jumped back ship, it's not that easy!

I heard that also when he first posted the link, but I dont think those guys have a clue. They are just talk radio host. Cador and BCU's coach are clearly head and shoulders above the rest of the canidates.

That is not necessarily a good thing. Unfortunately and fundamentally, I believe it has held us back over the last two decades or so.

Didn't say it was what HBCU's wanted and deserved but it is what it is that's the reality! Enough people don't give back to their institutions, many have forgotten where they came from and there are other factors also!

Confused why you do not think the talk show hosts have a clue. They follow the program (one of whom worked in the department for years ) and any story that breaks pertaining from the department comes from one of the two 95% of the time. Not sure where they get their information from.

As it relates to coaches and where they "stand", I'll leave that to you guys to interpret...

If they are really serious, Cador and BCC's coach should be at the top. They have shown what they can do with very limited resources in building and developing a quality program.

Did Rey already sign his contract with Alcorn? Imagine how he would feel if Cador did take the UNO job and the SU job was open.

I am sure Coach Cador is just using the UNO job as leverage to show SU he is not playing. A pitching coach could bring our program up 5 levels. That has been one of our major flaws on most of our outstanding teams. The clubhouse would be able to attract more recruits and generate even more interest in the baseball program.

If he does leave, SU better make a hard play for BCC's coach.

How many think that UNO is going to just promote their assistant coach and are just using Cador and BCC's coach to satisfy the minority consideration requirements?

Southern better not lose Cador! That would be horrific for SU and very damaging for the swac as well. Do what you've got to do to keep him, fire Lafleur if you've got to!

I agree 100%! No other SWAC baseball program can compare to what this man has done. SU baseball is respected worldwide. This man is a great head coach and a very cool guy.

Cador used this same move a few years back interviewing for the vacant Jackson State position. It simply a leverage move to try to get what he wants done for the program (i.e. locker rooms/coaches office facility and pitching coach). Even with i'm being a finalist for the UNO job i'm not sure that it will put enough pressure to get those things done. From what I hear many SU alumni are not too happy with Lefleur as athletic director. With a few more years left in his coaching career I do believe Cador would be a great AD for the Jaguar Nation. Then it would be interested to see who he hired as his replacement as head baseball coach.

Exactly because that what these knotheads they call leaders expect them to do. It's amazing how this younger generation whose in control (as a whole) think more coonist than the older generation
