Spike Lee Rips Tyler Perry

Note to SPIKE LEE.
STFU.

Guess he will start ripping Speilburg for making the MLK Bio set for release next. :shame:
negro need to focus on producing another hit movie before the turn of the century happens again.

 they spoof'd him in that Boondock's episode where MLK wasn't dead. Said something about, "Oliver Stone set to do a documentary on MLK...Spike Lee was pissed." :emlaugh:

I agree that we do need a balance and better black programming...my thing is, why don't Spike and the rest get their asses out there and make the shows, rather than criticizing another brother for doing what he's doing. That's what wrong with us, right now...we just don't get it. :smh:

Freedom of Speech. If Spike wants to put somebody on blast he has every right to do that. I'm quite sure he has been critiqued in the same manner at some point in his career. I, for one, agree with him, though.

There is too much c**nery in most of TP's plays/ films for my taste. And trying to dress it up with "a good message" is not acceptable to me. Just my opinion.

:clap::clap::clap:

Exactly... I am not the hugest fan of Tyler Perry's sitcoms, but if Spike has a better idea to show African Americans in a better light, then make it happen.

No need in knocking Tyler Perry for finding a niche and running with it.

The FIRST and most important thing is... STOP CALLING THAT DUDE TP...there is only ONE TP.

Now, on to the less important things...

....all this self hate ain't good. Self hate has already cost us our communities and it has caused some of our better AA students to go to PWCs, killed our athletic programs, and soon it's gonna take our bands. There are STUPID white shows out there. Tyler Perry's shows are COMEDY...but he tries to give them a sense of purpose. He ain't got to do that. I have never seen a Perry play but the movies have been good and I take the sitcoms for what they are... I don't think they are great and half the cast can't act but he chose those people for a reason and I think it was a good reason.. loyalty.

...also his audience is his audience and those of us in that 10% are going to view things differently from the majority of TV watchers anyway. Now to call a spade a spade, how many of you watched "Lincoln Heights"? I bet half of you don't even know what it is. :(

Warn, there have been plenty of black sitcoms lately but they all went off the air probably because these people on here complaining ain't watch em. On top of that, the show with that neo soul singer was just on HBO and it seems to go over well. The balance is out there but you know folks gonna find something good to hate on.

oh, I know...read my post on that other thread about black shows. LOL I know how WE LOVE TO HATE ON OUR OWN. It's been that way since slavery days...it's a slave mentality and that's one of the main reasons why we, as a people don't prosper, grow and unify.

I get what you saying cause, but there were a few of his movies that didn't, which were the ones I actually like the most. Why Did I Get Married?, Daddy's Little Girls, and A Family That Preys. Those movies didn't even have the characters that everybody labels as "coons". Those were all movies with serious real life drama that we deal with, without the side show. And they were very good IMO. I don't watch his tv shows cause I just can't really get into them, so I just don't watch them and leave it at that. I do enjoy his plays, and i've enjoyed all of his movies. I get TP's emails, and they are very inspirational, It makes me understand why he does what he does. Many people may not agree with his style, but he sure has come along way, and because of his character he stays true to what made him who he is.

Thing is we don't have a balance in what is show about us. I can put up with c**nery, but give me something of substance. I can't stand Bow Wow, Soulja Boy, Flavor of Love and I Love New York because it makes my job as an educator HARDER because there is very little to counter the images they showcase about us.

When you have kids have a drag out, destroy the classroom and break noses fights over I love New York. You know we are in trouble.:shame:

The thing is if someone tried to make a decent show about a black family that isn't "buffonish". WE WON'T WATCH IT! Especially if it has an image that uneducated black folk think isn't real.

Why do so many of our shows always have single women raising children or single men raising girls yet white shows have single men raising boys. If a father is raising a son, it's a cable show (Cory in the House) or Star Trek: DS9

I can understand what Spike is saying, but if he is that upset-why doesn't he and others get together to get "better" shows on tv?

He needs to upset that a lot of our positive shows, artists and others are being ignored in favor of buffonism by our black media. Something isn't right that you wll rehash or did up outdate material just claim you are talking about other black folks that don't need sex tapes, dumb dances, abusing girlfriends or gun happy grandmother for attention.
YES RIGHT ON, BLACK BEAT & WORD UP MAGAZINE-I'm talking about you!
Was rewriting Omarion like ice cream 30 times REALLY that important?

Preach my brotha.

I was about to say ALL of his movies were c**nery, but then I thought about those two and changed it to "most". lol. I was dragged to the theatre to see both of them and left thinking they weren't that bad. I do respect TP as a businessman, and I like that he really inspires others, but his body of work just isn't my taste.

I wish him continued success and hope he keeps on raking in millions, it just won't be from me............but my wife love this fool so I guess he's still getting my $$$ one way or the other. Oh well.

your post is so funny on so many different levels. i hear ya though!

Note to Hollywood, "Please, and I mean please stop letting us have TV shows, movies and anything with an all brotha/sista cast. Thanks!!!!!" It will be so nice hearing what yall gone say when Hollywood does this!!! No more complaining!!!

I'm quite sure that things are already the way Hollywood wants it to be. For instance, to see a movie like Soul Plane get the green light to be made there has to be a conspiracy....then it went to the big screen. Trust, Hollywood would much rather do this than to cease black filmmaking all together. More damage is done this way.

sooooo...if Having an all black cast is Coonary...what was sinfield and Friends??

Im just sayin...

Same people that say Tyler Perry sitcoms are coonish.. are the same ones that watched Good Times religiously :shame:

I don't watch Tyler Perry sitcoms because the acting is horrible! Thats my reason.

what was wrong with Good Times? it was about a complete Black family living in Cabrini Green projects. At the time it was...it was a good show.
I agree with you, I don't like TP sitcoms b/c the acting sucks and the writing sucks.
Actually...if I watch Good Times the acting reminds me of a TP sitcom!! LOL

folks that are calling it "coonish" aren't doing so b/c it has an all black cast.
These same folks (some of them at least) are pointing out good black shows like the Cosby Show, which had an All black cast.

Thank you...........and in the past

Negro's would rather watch something like "Friends, Desperate Housewives, or Sex in the City" than any show with a black cast.
It's been proven time and time again cause anytime something "black" come on, the first post here are about "cooning".
Black people didn't even watch Bernie Mack according to the low ratings.

The only reason "Living Single" lasted as long as it did was because FOX had just started out as a TV Network and could not afford to cut any show they had.
That show never got the viewer's it deserved.

If Brown is a c**n,.... then J.J Evans is I AM Legend of Coons:lol:

:retard:

How do you figure? I don't see how the two characters are even comparable?

Like I said...I've only seen a couple of episodes of "House of Payne" adn I don't see it...

 @ 8 to 5

How are the charactors on House of Payne or Meet The Browns "Coons"?.....Other than an at average of sub-par acting, ion see how the word "c**n" came up...
