In 2007, Jackson State won its first SWAC Football Championship since 1996.To do it, they overcame both an 0-2 start to the season, and avenged a home regular season loss to Western Division champ Grambling in the conference title game.Â
Now Jackson State is seeking to win back-to-back SWAC titles, a feat that has not accomplished since 2000-02. Head Coach Rick Comegy is projected to return just 11 starters from last year’s team, but 41 letterwinners return seeking one thing – a repeat
Heading into year three of the Rick Comegy era, the Tigers look to restore JSU’s legacy as a perennial contender for the SWAC crown. Throughout Comegy’s career as a head coach, his teams have continued to improve on paper. And his stay at Jackson State has been no different. A season prior to his arrival, Jackson State finished with a 2-9 record and had fallen near the cellar of the conference standings.
