Clarksdale, MS – The Coahoma Community College Tigers are set to host their second home game of the 2020 season.  The Tigers will face Holmes Community College Thursday at 7 p.m.

The Tigers (1-2) will be going into this matchup well-rested and hungry for victory as they are coming off an unexpected bye week. Last Thursday’s game against Northwest Mississippi Community College was canceled due to safety concerns and the COVID-19 virus. Head coach Travis Macon optimistically believes the canceled game was beneficial to his players.

“It gave us a chance to heal mentally. We practiced that Friday and Sunday to get those extra days to make sure our guys are game ready,” said Macon.

CCC last took to the playing field on Oct. 24, where they lost against Itawamba Community College 19-14 for their second meeting of the season. Coahoma is ranked third in the MACCC North division with one win and two losses.

Their upcoming opponent, Holmes Community College, is currently seventh in the standings with two losses against Northeast Mississippi Community College both at their home field and away. Coach Macon has taken adequate steps to prepare for whatever Holmes is bringing to Clarksdale.

“Holmes does a variety of schemes differently on the defense than what we are used to. We have been doing a number of film sessions,” said Coach Macon. In total, Coahoma has three more games left in the regular season, and each win will count in effectively aiming to win the North Conference. Macon said that even though unforgettable mistakes were made against both Itawamba and Northeast, he is extremely pleased with his players and all efforts being made by his coaching staff.

“The coaches and players realized we allowed Itawamba to get the win. Now, they are taking the extra precautions to make sure we don’t let it happen again,” expressed Macon.
Macon also highlighted one key aspect he has noticed during previous games and is hoping to make a necessary improvement for Thursday’s matchup.

“The biggest thing with the young guys is that they have to learn how to finish consistently, and once we get that down pack, we can finish the drive. Getting the ball moving up and down to the 30, that’s where my main focus is for this week,” said Macon.

Seating capacity at James E. Miller Stadium will only be 25 percent. However, Coach Macon is urging Tiger fans to continue showing their support by coming out and making their cheers heard. “I have a young group, and they have responded to the losses and are determined to bring great energy to this week’s game,” said Macon. “Our cheerleaders and fans did a great job cheering us on. We just have to deliver on our end.”
