SWAC East Tennis Roundup Set for this Weekend

tennisBIRMINGHAM – The 2010 SWAC East Tennis Roundup will take place this weekend Friday, March 26 – Sunday, March 28 on the campus of Jackson State University in Jackson, MS.

Competing in the tournament will be Eastern division teams Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Alcorn State, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State. This is the last of three roundup tournaments that determines the six teams to participate in the 2010 SWAC Tennis Championship, April 16 -18 in Alexandria, LA. Only the top three teams in each division qualify for the championship tournament.

On the men’s side, defending champion Alcorn State currently leads the field with a 1-2 conference record. The remaining men’s teams in the East went winless at last month’s East-West roundup and are 0-3 in the SWAC. For the women, Alcorn State and defending champion Jackson State are presently tied for first with 3-1 slates. Alabama A&M enters the competition in third place with a 2-2 record, while Alabama State is fourth with a 1-3 mark. Mississippi Valley State, who’s in search of its first conference win of the season, is in last place at 0-4.

All matches will be played at the JSU Tennis Complex with competition starting at 8 a.m. each morning. The schedule is as follows:

Friday –March 26th

8 a.m. – Jackson State vs. Alabama State

11 a.m. – Alcorn State vs. Mississippi Valley State

2 p.m. – Jackson State vs. Alabama A&M

5 p.m. – Alcorn State vs. Alabama State

Saturday-March 27th

8 a.m. – Alabama State vs. Mississippi Valley State

11 a.m. – Alcorn State vs. Alabama A&M

2 p.m. – Jackson State vs. Mississippi Valley State

5 p.m. – Alabama State vs. Alabama A&M

Sunday-March 28th

8 a.m. – Alabama A&M vs. Mississippi Valley State

11 a.m. – Jackson State vs. Alcorn State
