Cheyney placed on probation
The NCAA placed Division II Cheyney on five years probation for infractions surrounding alleged lack of institutional control over certification process.
The NCAA Division II Committee on Infractions found Cheyney to have allowed 109 student-athletes to practice, compete, receive travel expenses and athletically related financial before receiving their amateur certification from the NCAA beginning in 2007 through 2011.
The committee also discovered a former university compliance director failed to follow procedure in the certification of student-athlete’s eligibility.
Cheyney is expected to place on probation until August 2019.

A confident Arkansas Pine-Bluff will battle Sun Belt foe
Arkansas Pine-Bluff will head into the season opener against Texas State brimming with confidence.
They not only believe they can hang with their Sun Belt opponent, but beat them outright.
“Because they are FBS, we will give them the respect we need to, Coleman told the Pine-Bluff Commercial. “But judging from the film and hearsay, they’re maybe not as talented as Arkansas State.”
Linebacker Antonio Jenkins said if the defense performs up to its capability, Texas State will have a hard time scoring.
“If we come out aggressive enough, we can hold them to 14 points,” he said.
