Despite reports that Texas Southern head coach Mike Davis was set to be hired by Jacksonville University, media reports now indicate the school has offered the position to Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne coach Tony Jasick.
JU reached an agreement Tuesday with Jasick, the national mid-major Coach of the Year, to become the 14th basketball coach in school history, sources told the Times-Union. JU is expected to make an official announcement Wednesday morning and hold a press conference on Thursday to introduce the 36-year-old Jasick.
The news comes just days after Max Edison, sports editor at the Houston Defender, reported Saturday via Twitter that Davis would take the Jacksonville job.
Davis, Texas Southern nor Jacksonville confirmed the report.
Texas Southern did grant Jacksonville permission last week to interview Davis after filing a request.
Davis was also a candidate for the vacant Houston position, media reports indicated.
Davis, hired by TSU in 2012 when the basketball program was on NCAA probation, led the Tigers to a 16-2 SWAC record and regular season title in 2013.
The Tigers finished second in SWAC play this past season and earned the school’s first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2003, where they lost in the First Four to Cal Poly.
Davis had recently signed a two-year contract extension with school that runs through the 2017-18 season.
