Doug Williams Takes Shots At The Hiring Process Of Broderick Fobbs – [AUDIO]

Former Grambling football coach Doug Williams was a guest on ESPN Radio 97.7’s Morning Drive Show with hosts Aaron Dietrich and Nick White, where Williams – once again – took a few minutes to bemoan the school’s decision to fire him two games into the 2013 season.

Using most of the segment to rant and point the finger at everyone else – other than himself and the Grambling Legends for his coaching demise – while attacking the GSU administration, ULS board members, “blindsided” alumni and other “grown folks” for their alleged shortcoming, Williams, unfortunately, felt the need to take a shot at the process which led to the hiring of current head football coach and fellow alum Broderick Fobbs.

Here are some of the comments Williams made regarding Fobbs and the hire:

“First of all, you know, every coach that was on my staff is not a part of that staff at all. All the information I got…I don’t try to get involved, I try to stay away, you know, but they was told that nobody from the staff could be hired.  And that’s the unfortunate part of it because there were some good coaches on that staff.”

“I shook Broderick’s hand, I think, two weeks ago.  I was at a basketball game.  I told him ‘good luck’ and left it at that.  But at the end of the day, you know, it’s alright.  He’s got to figure it out for himself, he’s got his staff together and they’ve got to do it for themselves.  You know, at the end of the day, it’s going to fall on him.”

“They (Grambling) made the choice…but the choice wasn’t made when it went through the search committee, the search was made long time ago.  You know, I remember telling one of the guys on the administration at Bayou Classic, I said, ‘y’all got your man huh?’ He said, ‘not yet’, I said, ‘Come on man, don’t BS me.’”

“And that’s one of the reasons why a lot of alumni is so split.  It’s the way it happened and the way it was done.  You hear them talk about how great the search was and knowing that you pouring water down peoples’ legs and talking about it’s raining.”

It’s incredibly disingenuous for Williams to comment on Grambling’s hiring process considering that he never interviewed for the Grambling position himself his second time around.  There was no search committee and there were no finalists.  Yet, Williams was given a second chance to coach at his alma mater when it had become clear that no other school at the Division I level would ever give him a first chance – despite his best attempts to get hired at Kentucky, South Florida  and Southern University.

Doug’s comments can be heard (below) at the 34:00 mark..
