An HBCU softball program is looking to restart the program after a forgettable season.
Mississippi Valley State announced Tuesday that they have parted ways with head coach Taliyah Riddick-Waters after a 1-38 season.
“We thank Coach Riddick-Waters for her contributions to our softball program and wish her well in her future endeavors,” MVSU athletic director Alecia Shields-Gadson said. “This realignment reflects a strategic vision that allows us to reset competitive expectations and create more opportunities for students to compete, thrive and elevate MVSU softball back to its competitive standards.”
The Delta Devilettes’ lone win in 2026 was a 4-1 win over Division II Bluefield State on Feb. 21. Valley lost 31 straight games to close out the season. MVSU has won just 19 games in five years following the retirement of Lee Smith following the 2021 season.
“Mississippi Valley State University is deeply invested in the growth and competitiveness of all our athletic programs,” Gadson continued. “We are unwavering in our goal to build a winning culture that prepares our student-athletes for success on the field and in life.”
A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
