Mike Davis is reportedly coming back to the SWAC.
According to a report by The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Davis is expected to be hired as the next Mississippi Valley State men’s basketball coach.
Davis, who first gained national attention for leading Indiana University to the 2022 NCAA Tournament national championship game, is expected to replace George Ivory. Ivory was fired after a 12-118 record in four seasons as Delta Devils coach.
Davis, 65, was most recently an assistant coach at Memphis under Penny Hardaway. He was among several assistants let go by Hardaway this offseason after the Tigers failed to make the NCAA Tournament.

Before a stint at Memphis, Davis was head coach at UAB and Detroit Mercy. He was fired at Detroit Mercy in 2024 after the Titans went 1-31. In his six seasons at the helm, Detroit Mercy went 60–119.
Mike Davis had success at Texas Southern
His most successful post-Indiana coach stint occurred at Texas Southern, where he led the Tigers to four NCAA Tournament berths in six seasons, including capturing four SWAC championships.
At Mississippi Valley State, he will undertake arguably the toughest job in college basketball in attempting to turn around a program that hasn’t featured a winning season since 2012.
Mississippi Valley State finished 3-30 last season and was eliminated in the first round of the SWAC Tournament.
