The Delaware State women’s basketball team hasn’t had a winning season in 18 years. It will be up to a local legend to reverse that trend.
The Hornets announced Friday morning that Khadijah Rushdan, a five-time all-state basketball player and veteran college assistant, will take over the women’s basketball program.
“We are excited to welcome Khadijah Rushdan back to Delaware as our new Head Coach,” DSU athletic director Tony Tucker said in a statement released by the university. “Khadijah’s impressive background as a player and her successful coaching experience make her the perfect fit to lead our women’s basketball program. This is another great addition to our Athletic Department that reflects our commitment to excellence.”
“I am beyond grateful and excited to be back home and lead the women’s basketball program at Delaware State University, a truly historic institution,” Rushdan said. “As a native of Delaware, this opportunity is incredibly special to me, and I’m thankful to President Allen, AD Tucker, and Dr. Hawkins for their trust and belief in my vision. DSU has tremendous potential, and I’m ready to build a championship culture that energizes our campus, engages our community, and makes our supporters proud.”
Rushdan was a three-time Delaware girls’ basketball player of the year at St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington before playing her college ball at Rutgers under legendary coach C. Vivian Stringer. She most recently served as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for Marquette’s women’s basketball program.
Rushdan will replace Jazmone Turner, who was let go in late March.
