HBCU baseball is coming to one of the most iconic sports venues in America this spring.

Wrigley Field is set to make history this spring as it welcomes the first-ever Chicago HBCU Baseball Classic.

The event will feature a matchup between Prairie View A&M University and Alabama A&M University at the Friendly Confines on Saturday, May 2.

Mayor Brandon Johnson hailed the occasion as a milestone for the city and the sport.

“The first-ever HBCU game at Wrigley Field is a historic milestone for Chicago and for the future of baseball,” Johnson said. “Wrigley Field is the only ballpark where Jackie Robinson played that still stands today, making it a powerful place to write the next chapter of Black baseball history.”

The game aims to honor the legacy of Black athletes in baseball while encouraging young Chicagoans to pursue opportunities in sports, education, and leadership.

The free event will take place after the Chicago Cubs’ home game earlier in the day versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tickets can be secured through the Chicago HBCU Classic website.
