Florida A&M to name Quinn Gray next head football coach

It’s official: Quinn Gray is set to become the next head football coach at Florida A&M University, bringing the program full circle with one of its most accomplished alumni now leading the Rattlers’ sideline.

Gray, a former standout quarterback at FAMU and longtime assistant coach, takes over following the program’s search for a coach after the school fired James Colzie earlier this month, according to multiple reports.

According to YouTube personality Offscript, public documents indicate the school and Quinn had agreed to a 5-year, $1.4 million deal.

The move marks a homecoming for Gray, whose familiarity with Rattler tradition and culture runs deep.

A 2001 FAMU graduate, Gray led the Rattlers to back-to-back MEAC titles during his playing days and went on to spend five seasons in the NFL before transitioning into coaching.

His coaching career has included stops at several HBCUs, most recently serving as the head coach at Albany State University, where he guided the Golden Rams to the program’s first-ever 12-win season and deep run in the Division II playoffs.

Earlier this week Gray stepped down from the role after the season.

Gray inherits a program coming off back-to-back seasons in which it failed to win the SWAC East under Colzie. The Rattlers when 12-12 during his two-year tenure and went 5-7 in 2025.

Gray’s hiring signals continuity for a program that has thrived in recent years and now turns to one of its own to sustain — and elevate — that success.
