James Colzie out as Florida A&M football coach

Florida A&M football will be led by a new face next year.

According to a Football Scoop report, Florida A&M has fired James Colzie III after two seasons as head coach.

Colzie finished 12-12 overall in two seasons, including a nightmarish 5-7 2025 that saw the Rattlers lose the Florida Classic to Bethune-Cookman for the first time in seven seasons and a crushing 35-31 loss to Mississippi Valley State Thanksgiving weekend.

The Delta Devils’ season-ending triumph marked the second straight year FAMU lost to the SWAC East’s last-place team.

Colzie was a controversial hire following the departure of Willie Simmons, who served as Duke’s running backs coach before leading FBS member Florida International to a bowl game this season. The Rattlers finished 7-5 in Colzie’s first season, but things fell apart quickly in 2025, starting with a season-opening loss to Howard in the Orange Blossom Classic.

The Rattlers lost the Florida Classic on a last-minute play and also surrendered the lead late at Valley, a makeup game that was originally scheduled to be played in Atlanta in October.

Colzie recently called for “greater investment” into the football program, two years after the Rattlers won the Celebration Bowl.

Now that potential investment will go towards a new head coach on the Highest of 7 Hills.
