After three years away from the starting blocks, Randolph Ross made a statement in his comeback race Sunday at the Meeting International de Marseille, finishing second in the men’s 400 meters with a time of 45.41 seconds.
The event marked Ross’s first competition since serving a lengthy suspension for anti-doping violations and tampering, and the result quickly signaled that the former NCAA and Olympic champion remains a force in American sprinting.

Ross, 24, lined up alongside a strong international field and immediately showed the poise and speed that once made him one of the sport’s brightest young stars.
He crossed the line just behind fellow American Demarius Smith, who won the race in a personal best of 45.14 seconds.
While Ross’s time was short of his personal best of 43.85, it was among the top 25 by an American this season—a remarkable feat given his long absence from competition.
For Ross, the race was about more than just results. It was a public test of his resilience and readiness
