One HBCU holding on for dear life faces another in a long line of legal battles, this one coming from a former NBA champion who led their men’s basketball program.
Chucky Brown, a member of the 1995 Houston Rockets championship team, is seeking more than $23,000 in lost wages and other compensation from St. Augustine’s following his termination this past December.
The suit, according to a report by CBS17 in Raleigh, alleges that St. Aug’s still owes Brown seven whole paychecks, 24 missing paid hours from his last received payment on Dec. 27, 2024 and payment for March 30 and March 31 of this year.
Brown was hired by the university prior to the 2022-23, signing a three-year contract worth $80,000 annually. The contract also had bonus included based on team and coaching success.
St. Augustine’s canceled all sports for the 2024-25 CIAA season in an effort to save the school from closing.
