Johnson, a 5’6 guard from Philadelphia, made headlines as a WNBA Draft Night snub, earning praise from former teammate Kierra Wheeler (now at West Virginia):
Diamond not getting drafted is straight politics 💯💯 when are yall gonna respect hbcus ?? She performed on every level check the stats ! Her story ain’t done but she deserved to see her name on that screen tonight.

Former WNBA all-star Chasity Melvin also highlighted Johnson as a player who should’ve been drafted.
Diamond Johnson is the most notable that didn’t get drafted to me —and let’s be real, it’s because of her size and the last college she played for .
She’s right there with Amoore.⁰Shifty, fearless, can create her own shot, and sees the floor.

Johnson won every imaginable award in her two seasons at Norfolk State, including two conference tournament MVP awards, Newcomer of the year in 2024 and conference player of the year this past season. She was a major key in the Spartans’ back-to-back MEAC title run, including a school record 30 wins this year.
The Lynx lost the WNBA finals to the New York Liberty in five games last season, but have a few questions at the guard position, which gives Johnson a fair chance at making the team.
