On the 15th anniversary of the Lou Henson Award (given to the top Mid-Major player in Division I men’s college basketball), an HBCU player hears his name called.
Despite being the award’s only HBCU finalist, Norfolk State guard Brian Moore Jr. becomes the second HBCU player to take it home, joining fellow Norfolk State alum Kyle O’Quinn.
The praise he deserves 👏

In his first season at Norfolk State, transferring to the team after playing the past two years at Murray State, Moore helped lead the Spartans to their second straight MEAC regular season title.
He averaged 19.0 points (second in the MEAC), 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.3 steals in 31 regular season games, being named to the All-MEAC First Team.
The Spartans’ guard then went on to win the MVP of the MEAC tournament after leading the team to their first conference tournament championship since 2022.
In the championship game, Moore finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
Moore becomes the fourth player to win this award despite not being named their respective conference’s player of the year.
