The canceling of sports at one HBCU continues.

Talladega College, who most famously cut their gymnastics program after one season, announced earlier this week that several sports would be discontinued based on a “comprehensive analysis of the resources necessary to support the continued success”, according to Birmingham-based television station WVTM 13.

Athletics programs that will be cut are men’s volleyball, acrobatics and tumbling, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s indoor track.

Talladega said in a release, “In making these tough decisions, it is essential to note that a feasibility study was not conducted before establishing these programs.”

“The decision to establish these programs was made in the spirit of fostering a diverse and inclusive athletic environment. However, early on, such studies would have revealed that these programs were not sustainable under present institutional conditions.”

The Talladega gymnastics program was the first to go, a shock to gymnast Kyrstin Johnson and her mother Scharon, who shared their plight with HBCU Sports in a July podcast episode.
