Kyrstin Johnson was the first recruit for Talladega College’s gymnastics teams and won the United States Association of Gymnastics’ national vaulting championship.
After Talladega canceled the program after just one season, Johnson has announced Monday evening that she is transferring to Temple University.

Johnson, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, won the USAG’s vaulting championship with a score of 9.925, joining Fisk’s Morgan Price as HBCU national champion gymnasts.
Unfortunately, Talladega College announced last month that they were canceling the program due to lack of funding. Johnson and her teammates started a crowdfunding effort to save the program but were unable to meet the university’s July 30th deadline.
