Last Monday, Mack earned his shot by winning a three-man playoff in a United States Golf Association qualifier, finishing fifth overall with a two-round score of 141. Mack competed for the Wildcats between 2008 and 2011, winning 11 tournaments. After graduation, he became the first African-American golfer to win the Michigan Amateur championship.
This year’s U.S. Open will be Mack’s eighth PGA tournament appearance and his first major tournament.
