After falling to the Tornadoes on Tuesday, LSU Shreveport evened the score and defeated Talladega 11-5, eliminating the Tornadoes from the NAIA Tournament.
Shreveport got to work, plating a pair of runs in the first inning via an RBI single from Austin Gomm and a double from AJ Fritz.
The Pilots added another run in the top of the second via a Gomm double, extending the lead to 3-0.
Talladega got on the board in the bottom of the second with Armando Jackson’s ground out allowing Nomar Garcia to score, trimming the deficit to 3-1.
Although they just got a single hit in their half of the frame, the Pilots scored twice in the third. The first came from a bases-loaded walk that forced home Jose Sallorin. A balk on the next at-bat brought home Carter LaValley, giving Shreveport a 5-1 lead.
Gomm’s big game continued with a blast over the center field fence in the top of the fourth, extending the lead to 6-1.
Miguel Ororpeza’s three-run shot was the major blow in a four-run 5th inning that sliced the lead to 6-5.
Jose Aquino’s pinch-hit grand slam was the key component in a 5-run explosion in the top of the 9th inning, which extended the Pilots’ lead to 11-5.
Talladega concluded the season with a 40-18 record.
