Prairie View has hired Anthony Weeden as their offensive coordinator.
This is a return to familiar territory for Weeden as he played his collegiate football at Prairie View, where he was a 2007 Sports Network FCS Third Team All-American punt returner and Sports Network 2008 FCS Preseason All-American. He was also a team captain on the Panthers’ 2009 SWAC championship team.
Weeden had spent the previous three seasons coaching football at Campbell University. In his first season, serving as receivers coach, Weeden coached AP All-American third-team wideout Caleb Snead.
Following the 2021 season, Weeden was promoted to offensive coordinator.
As offensive coordinator, Coach Weeden helped form the Camels passing attack into the 22nd most prolific in FCS in 2022, averaging 261 yards per game and setting school records for passing yards (2,901) and passing touchdowns ( 24).
This was all achieved with three different starting quarterbacks. Offensive tackle Mike Edwards garnered all-American honors. Edwards, along with wide receiver Julian Hill, earned First Team Big South honors, with guard Isaiah Burch and running back Bryant Barr making the Big South Second Team.
Weeden’s abilities earned him the 2022 Graphite Award, which recognized the most efficient play-caller in each Division I football conference.
Coach Weeden served as receivers coach at Dixie State, helping the Trailblazers to an 8-3 overall record and 7-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, which was the best season in the program’s 14-year run as a D-II program.
In 2017, three members of the Dixie State receiving corps earned conference honors.
