Former Jackson State wide receiver Malachi Wideman could be one step closer to a pro football career.
Wideman, who was a significant transfer portal get for Jackson State during the Deion Sanders regime, was invited to the NFL Supplemental Draft.
In 2021, Wideman caught 34 passes for 540 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, last season he appeared in just six games and was only able to record three catches for 49 yards.
Wideman was a four-star prospect coming out of Venice, Florida’s Venice High School, where he was also a highly-touted basketball player. He received offers from 15 schools, including Auburn, Oregon, and Florida State, before committing to the University of Tennessee.
Wideman appeared in six games for the Volunteers as a true freshman before transferring to Jackson State.
The NFL Supplemental Draft will take place next month for the first time since 2019. If a club is interested in a prospect, a bid is submitted with the draft choice a team would like to use on the player.
A successful bid means the team would lose that pick in the corresponding round in the 2024 draft.
Wideman is the second prospect in the supplemental draft, joining former Purdue wideout Milton Wright.
