After posting a record time, Florida Memorial University sprinter Saminu Abdul-Rasheed was named the Sun Conference’s top men’s track athlete.
At the 2023 Hurricane Alumni Invitational, the sophomore sprinter claimed victory in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.04 seconds, which is currently the fastest time in the nation in both the NAIA and NCAA and sixth overall in the world.
The Ghanaian native also took second place in the 200-meter dash at the same meet, running the race in 20.50 seconds, making it the 20th fastest time this season in either the NCAA or NAIA.

Abdul-Rasheed’s on-track exploits also earned him NAIA Men’s Athlete of the Week for the second time this year.
He was also part of the Florida Memorial 4×100-meter team — along with Gregg Bain, Jaylyn Session, and Antonio Thomas — that placed fourth with a time of 40.94 seconds.
Abdul-Rasheed is the first FMU athlete to earn the weekly conference honor since Shemar Chambers did last April.
