On Friday, the Lincoln Lions women’s basketball team announced that their former guard Kwanza Murray has signed a professional contract with Brunell of the Ireland Super League.

As a result, Murray becomes the first player in Lincoln University (PA) women’s basketball player to sign a professional contract.

Murray played two seasons with the Lions transferring to the team after playing her first two years with Lackawanna College in her hometown of Summerville, South Carolina. In 35 career games, she finished with career averages of 19.2 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals.

In her senior season, Murray averaged 21.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 steals leading the Lions to a school-record 23 wins and was named the Division II Player of the Year by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

The biggest highlight in Murray’s time with the Lions came in a matchup against the Shippensburg Raiders in Nov. 2019 when she finished 41 points. She shot 15-of-20 from the field while shooting 8-of-10 from the three-point line.

This was the second 40-point game in Lincoln women’s basketball history and one point away from the highest scoring game in school history. She also tied the school record for most threes made in a game.

Murray had this to say about signing her historic signing, “I feel great about myself to be able to do something rare; coming from a small Division II school like Lincoln. I hope it helps put Lincoln on the map. I am blessed I was the one. I am grateful to get the opportunity to live out my dream”
