MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Florida Memorial’s scheduled football contest against Keiser University has been rescheduled for Nov. 14 due to COVID-19 related concerns, both institutions announced on Friday.

“These are challenging times, and we have to remain flexible in our scheduling,” Florida Memorial University Director of Athletics Ernest T. Jones said in a statement. Although I am disappointed to lose our home opener vs. Keiser, I am excited to play St. Thomas, our Miami Gardens rival, in our first home game of the season on Oct. 10, which is also our Homecoming game.”

Additionally, Florida Memorial and Keiser have agreed to a weekend schedule change as the FMU men’s soccer team will also move its Oct. 3 contest vs. the Seahawks to a later date.

FMU is the only HBCU athletic program competing in fall sports.

The school brought football back to the Miami Gardens campus for the first time in 62 years when the Lions played Keiser University on Sept. 12.

In August, the school announced that six people within the athletic department tested positive for the coronavirus.
