NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana and Ochsner Health System’s Sports Medicine Institute announced Friday the signing of a three-year extension of their partnership.
Since 2006, XULA has contracted with Ochsner to provide all XULA sports medicine needs. The extension ensures that Ochsner will continue to staff/manage XULA’s athletic medical needs, assemble the sports medicine team and provide the best quality healthcare to student-athletes.
“Ochsner Sports Medicine’s ability to evaluate, treat and rehabilitate injuries has been vital in our teams’ many successes,” said Jason Horn, XULA assistant vice president for student affairs/director of athletics and recreation.
“We enjoy maintaining the relationship. Ochsner is the standard-bearer in the state when it comes to sports medicine.”
In response to recent sports expansion — XULA intercollegiate teams expanded from nine in 2018-19 to 13 in 2020-21 — Ochsner will add additional certified athletic trainers and a medical fellow.
“Xavier is confident that Ochsner will continue to maintain the highest standards of quality consistent with the National Athletic Trainers Association Code of Professional Practice,” Horn said. “Ochsner has always ensured that our student-athletes’ needs come first.”
“Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute is proud to extend its long term partnership with Xavier University Athletics, and we are committed to continuing to expand our services as Xavier’s athletic footprint continues to grow,” said Scott Saylor, system manager of the Ochsner Sports Medicine Institute. “As we look to the future, we also hope to continue to expand our conversation regarding diversity and inclusion. Ochsner is honored to play a role in supporting our local black community at Xavier University. Supporting Xavier athletes’ physical and mental wellbeing are equally important to Ochsner, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Xavier for many years to come.”
Ochsner also is the official healthcare provider of the NFL’s New Orleans Saints and the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans.
