Lane College announced on Wednesday that assistant football coach Vyron Brown will lead the Lane College football program as head football coach.

Brown brings 16 years of coaching experience to the job and has worked at the secondary and collegiate levels as well as the National Football League. He has been a pivotal figure with conference championship teams at both the professional and collegiate levels. Throughout his career, he has served as assistant head coach, offensive coordinator, quarterback coach, wide receivers coach, running backs coach, defensive backs coach, and NFL liaison.

Brown began his coaching career at Grambling State University. As an undergraduate there, Brown was recruited by legendary Grambling head football coach Eddie Robinson to play football in his last recruiting class. Upon Robinson’s retirement, NFL Super Bowl MVP Doug Williams became Grambling’s head coach, at which time Brown was one of four captains of the football team on the 2000-01 back-to-back SWAC Championship team. For the 2002 season, Brown was hired by Coach Williams as a defensive graduate assistant. This was the same year that Grambling won its third consecutive SWAC football championship. In 2005, Brown served as assistant running backs coach when Grambling won the SWAC Championship.

While at Shaw University in 2008, Brown coached the #1 offense in the conference, averaging 40.6 points per game and becoming the CIAA Conference Champions.

Brown said he is honored to be the next head football coach at Lane College.

“I feel fortunate to be named the head football coach at Lane College,” Brown said. “I am strongly committed to assisting our students with their academic pursuits while developing their athletic talents. I want them to be the best they can be on and off the field,” Brown said.

While at Lane, Brown has served as offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and Dragon Academy liaison. Brown’s offense was one of the top-scoring offenses in the SIAC Conference, averaging 24.8 points per game. Under his direction, two players earned All-SIAC recognitions.
“We are looking forward to Coach Brown helping to inspire our players as he leads the Dragons to success,” Athletic Director Derrick Burroughs said.”

“Just as important to us, Brown has a genuine passion for Lane College and the qualities that make the College unique,” Lane College President Logan Hampton said.

Brown, a native of Shreveport, LA, earned his Master of Science in Public Administration and Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology from Grambling (LA) State University. He replaces Burroughs, who will devote his full attention to serving as Director of Athletics.
