NORFOLK, Va., — The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has announced its women’s pairings for the 2019 MEAC Basketball Tournament, March 11-16 at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, Va. North Carolina A&T State will be the top seed after concluding the regular season with a 16-0 mark in MEAC play for the first time in program history.
Maryland Eastern Shore went 12-4 in conference play this season and will be the No. 2 seed. Both the Aggies and the Hawks earned first-round byes and will not play until the quarterfinal round on Wednesday. North Carolina A&T State, the defending tournament champion, will play the 12 p.m. quarterfinal that day against the winner of Tuesday’s first-round contest between No. 8 Delaware State and No. 9 North Carolina Central.
Maryland Eastern Shore will play in the 2 p.m. quarterfinal, taking on the winner of Tuesday’s first-round game between No. 7 South Carolina State and No. 10 Savannah State.
Games will start on Monday, March 11 with the No. 5 Howard/No. 12 Florida A&M matchup at 1 p.m. and the No. 6 Morgan State/No. 11 Coppin State contest to follow at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Tuesday’s action will also tip off at 1 p.m. with the Delaware State-North Carolina Central game. South Carolina State-Savannah State will follow at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Bethune-Cookman earned the No. 3 seed and corresponding first-round bye, and the Lady Wildcats will play the 12 p.m. quarterfinal on Thursday against the winner of the Morgan State-Coppin State contest. Norfolk State, as the No. 4 seed, claimed the last first-round bye; the Spartans’ Thursday quarterfinal will be against the Howard-Florida A&M winner.
The 2018-19 regular-season champions, first team honorees and award winners including Player, Rookie, Defensive Player and Coach of the Year, will be recognized in pregame presentations before the honorees’ first games in tournament play.
The 2019 MEAC Basketball Tournament tips off Monday, March 11, and will conclude on Saturday, March 16 with the men’s and women’s championship games. The women’s game will begin one hour after the end of the men’s game and will be rebroadcast on ESPNU. It will air the following day, Sunday, March 17, at 9 a.m.
The men’s finale will begin at 1 p.m. and will broadcast live on ESPN2.
