Charlotte, NC – After leading his team to an Indoor Football League (IFL) Championship title, Drew Powell (Livingstone College ’15), has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Earlier this year, Powell attended the Roughriders’ mini-camp and is currently on the team’s practice squad.

Powell was the 2018 Indoor Football League Most Valuable Player, leading the Iowa Barnstormers to their first United Bowl Championship. Powell completed 154-of-226 attempts for 1,604 yards, 34 touchdowns against four interceptions while rushing for league-high totals of 945 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Missing two games due to a stint in the CFL, Powell was named IFL Offensive Player of the Week three times and topped 90 yards rushing in six games. Following the season, Powell was also named First Team All-IFL Quarterback.

Prior to entering the professional league, Powell began his journey playing collegiately for Livingstone College.

During his senior season in 2015 completed 184 of 315 passes for 2,166 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions plus rushing for 614 yards and eight touchdowns.

In addition to winning Rookie of the year in 2012, Powell was named the CIAA’s Offensive Player of the Year as a senior in 2015. He had an outstanding career at Livingstone in which he set new records with 312 passing attempts, 732 passing completions, and 10,861 total yards.

Throughout his time at Livingstone, Powell broke a total of 11 school records (six of which he collected his freshman season) and four CIAA records.
