NEW ORLEANS (GCAC) – Talladega College guard/forward Tajanee Wells has been named GCAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 17 – Jan. 23.

Wells, a junior from Columbus, Ohio, averaged 14.5 points and 11 rebounds for the 19th-ranked Lady Tornadoes as they defeated Philander Smith and Dillard, extending Talladega’s win streak to five games.

Wells picked up her first double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds in a 74-65 home win over Philander Smith.  She followed that up with 10 points, nine boards, and four assists in a 20-point road win at Dillard.  She also ranks in the top five in the GCAC in scoring (16.4 ppg), field goal percentage (.411), and rebounding (6.74 rpg).

This is her second Player of the Week award this season, and fourth of her career.

Alena Evans had 20 points and five rebounds for Dillard against No. 19 Talladega…Edward Waters guard Kyeshia Dawkins scored 14 points and had 2 steals on the road at SUNO…Tamara Heard posted her first career double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds for Philander Smith against No. 20 Xavier…SUNO’s Rayvin Miller had 25 points, seven rebounds, and four assists in a win over Edward Waters…Montoria Atkinson led the Tougaloo Lady Bulldogs in scoring in a loss to Xavier…Xavier’s Donyeah Mayfield averaged 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, leading the Gold Nuggets in both categories over two games.
