MEAC Football Players Of The Week – Nov. 23

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central running back Dorrell McClain was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, announced today.  Teammate Theo Livingston was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Delaware State’s Kobie Lain was selected as the Rookie of the Week while NCCU’s Zachary Giles earned Offensive Lineman of the Week honors.  DSU’s Brycen Alleyne was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

McClain (RB, 5-10, 190, Fr., Cary, N.C.) rushed for a season-best 167 yards and a touchdown to help secure the Eagles’ 21-16 win over North Carolina A&T State and earn a share of the conference title.  He added three catches to finish with 206 all-purpose yards in the win.

Livingston (DB, 5-10, 210, r-Sr., Fayetteville, N.C.) recorded a career-high 13 tackles (12 solo), including three solo takedowns for a loss of 10 yards against N.C. A&T State.  Also, he added a forced fumble in season finale.

Lain (QB, 6-2, 215, Fr., Fayetteville, Ga.) completed 14-of-27 passes for 181 yards, with two touchdowns, to lead the Hornets to their first win of the season with a 32-31 victory over Howard.  He also rushed for 52 yards on 15 carries with one another touchdown in the victory.

Alleyne (RB/KR, 5-7, 170, Fr., Wilmington, Del.) ran back two kickoffs for 110 total yards, including an 88-yard touchdown in the 32-31 win over Howard.  He was one yard short of two kickoff returns, being stopped on the one-yard line on his second attempt.

Other Top Performers

Devin Bowers (FAMU) carried the ball 23 times for 117 yards with one touchdown and posted two catches for 26 yards  and was named the FAMU’s Florida Classic MVP in game against Bethune-Cookman.

Ricquaz Brannon (HOW) rushed for a career-high 126 yards, on 22 carries, with one touchdown against Delaware State.

Dae-Hon Cheung (DSU) scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 64-yard run in the fourth quarter, capping a 116-yard rushing performance on 11 carries, in the win over Howard.

Greg Hankerson (NSU) completed 15-of-25 passes for 128 yards with one touchdown and ran for 88 yards, on nine carries, for another touchdown in a win over Morgan State.

Javon Hargrave (SCSU) tallied four tackles, three solo, with two for a loss of 22 yards, including two sacks.  He also forced a fumble and recorded a breakup against Savannah State.

Travon Hunt (HOW) recorded four solo tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and two breakups against Delaware State.

Deon King (NSU) posted a game-high 14 tackles with two for losses against Morgan State.

Robert Mercer (HOW) returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown against Delaware State.

Tevin Richard (SCSU) blocked his fifth punt of the season to set a Bulldog school record against Savannah State.

Gabe Sherrod (DSU) registered seven tackles, with 4.5 for a loss of 25 yards, including 2.5 sacks and one recovered fumble in the win over Howard.

LaVontis Smith (NCCU) returned a third-quarter punt 67 yards for a touchdown and finished with five punt returns for 82 yards, averaging 16.4 yards per run, in win over N.C. A&T State.

Taquan West (SCSU) finished with eight catches for 117 yards with two touchdowns against Savannah State.
