BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Brennan Reynard scored 22 points and had five steals to help lead the Benedict College to an 82-78 victory over Stillman College in the quarterfinals of the SIAC men’s basketball tournament late Wednesday night.
Benedict, now 17-11, advances to the semifinals on Friday. Benedict will face the winner between Morehouse and Tuskegee.
Stillman, which entered the tournament as the No. 1 seed from the West division, finished the season at 17-10.
Jordan Smith added 18 points for the Tigers, including hitting a key 3-pointer with 2:17 left in the game to give the Tigers a 69-68 advantage and Benedict held on to the lead for the rest of the way.
Benedict sealed the game at the free-throw line, sinking seven of its final eight attempts in the final 36 seconds.
Benedict had as much as a 15-point lead in the second half, but the Stillman Tigers chipped away until finally taking the lead, 69-68, on a free throw by Rodnerius Lewis.
Deonte Johnson had 13 points and nine rebounds, while Roberto Mantovani had 14 points and seven rebounds.
Stillman had five players in double figures, led by Lewis with 17 points.
