The two marquee HBCU football games on the Week 3 slate were the annual BoomBox Classic, featuring Jackson State and Southern, and the traditional Southern Heritage Classic, featuring Tennessee State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

However, given the number of other stellar performances on tap from other HBCU bands around the country, the band performances from the SHC did not make the cut.
