Texas Southern Falls By 40 to No. 8 Gonzaga [Video]

SPOKANE, Wash. — Texas Southern could not overcome the hot hand Kyle Wiltjer and #8 Gonzaga downed the Tigers 94-54 on Monday night from Spokane Wash.

Wiltjer made 9 of 11 shots, including all three of his 3-point attempts.

Madarious Gibbs and Deverell Biggs each scored 12 points for Texas Southern (1-8). David Blanksadded 11.

Gonzaga has a 32-game home winning streak, second-longest in the nation behind Duke’s 37 straight home wins.

The Bulldogs shot 64 percent and made 10 of 19 three pointers. TSU was outrebounded battle 38-27.

The Tigers started hitting some baskets, but still trailed 23-12 with 7:54 left in the first.

Angel Nunez scored to put Gonzaga up 30-14, as the Tigers made only seven of their first 20 shots.

Wiltjer’s 3-pointer highlighted a 10-0 run that lifted Gonzaga to a 40-16 lead at halftime. Texas Southern was scoreless for the last 4 1/2 minutes of the first half.

The Tigers shot just 27.6 percent in the first half, including going 0-for-9 from 3-point range. Gonzaga shot 57.7 percent in the first, with nine different players scoring.

The teams met once before, with Gonzaga winning in 2008.

The Tigers have already lost to Indiana, Tennessee, SMU, Baylor and Florida this season, with No. 25 Michigan State and Kansas State still to play. Their only victory is over Lamar … Texas Southern averages 59.9 points per game.

Drake def Jackson State 76-66

DES MOINES, Iowa — Drake held off a second-half rally to beat Jackson State 76-66 on Monday night Des Moines, Iowa.

Drake (2-8) went up 44-29 in the first three minutes of the second before Jackson State (1-9) rallied to within three on Raeford Worsham’s three-point play with 9:07 left.

Worsham had seven straight points early in the second half and scored 14 during the Tigers’ rally to get within 55-52. He finished a career-high 27 and Dre’Sean Looney added 15 points, making 4 of 6 from three point range.

Timmer scored nine as the Bulldogs went back in front by 15 with a 17-5 run over the next 4:31. Jackson State closed to 72-64 but would get no closer.

Jacob Enevold Jensen had 17 points and eight rebounds, Chris Caird scored 14 and Gary Ricks Jr. added 11 for Drake.
