GCAC Announces Conference Runner And Volleyball Players Of The Week

New Orleans, La. (GCAConf.com) – Tougaloo College’s Nicolos Jones and Irenia Ball have been named the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Runners of the Week.  This is the first honor for both.

Nicolos Jones, Tougaloo, Sr., Itta Bena, Miss.

Jones posted a time of 34:06 over 8 kilometers at the Watson Ford Invitational this past weekend leading the Bulldogs.  He will compete next at the GCAC Cross Country Championships in New Orleans, October 18th.

Irenia Ball, Tougaloo, Fr., North Little Rock, Ark.

The first-year runner displayed her considerable potential while posting a time of 30:26 in the 6 kilometer race at the Watson Ford Invitational.

Volleyball Player of the Week

Christal Kay Hollins (Southern University at New Orleans) has earned GCAC Volleyball Player of the Week honors for her play during the week of Sept. 29-Oct. 5.  This is the second Player of the Week award for Hollins this season and the fourth of her career.

The senior from New Orleans had four double-doubles in an impressive week.  Hollins set a career-high in kills against Wiley College with 22 and in digs with 31 against rival Xavier.  She led the Knights to a 2-2 mark on the week with averages of 14.25 kills and 21 digs had an attack percentage of .384.
