Tuskegee takes SIAC crown in win over Miles

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced its football players of the week with Monqavious Johnson (Morehouse), Gabriel Mass (Lane), Craig Drummond (Lane), Trevor Wylie (Tuskegee) and Trovante Thompson (Morehouse) garnering the weekly accolades.

Johnson was voted SIAC Offensive Player of the Week with teammate Thompson landing offensive lineman honors. Mass earned SIAC Defensive Player of the Week with fellow defender Drummond tabbed witht he newcomer of the award. Capping the honors, Wylie was named the top specialist for a consecutive week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Monqavious Johnson
Morehouse
QB • 6-0 • 190 • So. • Decatur, Ga.
Johnson completed 16-of-24 passes for 403 yards and four touchdowns leading Morehouse to a 43-9 win over Central State, in the Chicago Classic. He accounted for 77 percent of the offense targeting eight different receivers. Despite playing only three-and-a-half quarters, he was voted the Offensive MVP of the Chicago Football Classic.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabriel Mass
Lane
DE • 265 • 6-5 • Jr. • Jackson, Ala.
In Lane’s 18-16 win over Paine, Mass led the Dragons’defense collecting eight tackles, three sacks and three quarterback hurries. Trailing 16-9, he recorded a deflected pass that was intercepted for a 52-yard touchdown return. The score was the game changing moment for the Dragons who recorded their first victory of the season after railing off 11 unanswered points. He powered a defense that scored two defensive touchdowns and posted an interception that led to a field goal and a safety.

NEWCOMER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Craig Drummond
Lane
DE • 272 • 6-6 • So • Chicago, Ill.
Craig collected seven tackles and two sacks, and a pass break-up to help lead Lane to an 18-16 win over Paine. He hauled in a deflected pass and rumbled 52-yards for a touchdown. His touchdown was one of three defensive scores for the Dragons.

SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Trevor Wylie
Tuskegee
PK/P • 181 • 6-2 • So. • Douglasville, Ga.
Wylie finished 2-2 on field goals and a PAT to score seven of the Golden Tigers’ 13 points. Wylie connected field goals from 48 and 29 yards.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
Trovante Thompson
Morehouse
OL • 6-3 • 280 • Sr. • Atlanta, Ga.
Thompson anchored an offensive line that racked up 522 yards of offense. He graded out at 92 percent to help a MHC offense that averaged 8.0 yards per play and converted 10-of-15 third downs. The Maroon Tigers scored on 2-of-4 trips in the red zone while completing 16.7 yards per pass attempt averaged.
