Alcorn State has signed head football coach Jay Hopson to a three-year contract extension, the school announced Thursday.
“We really appreciate what Coach Hopson has done in elevating our football program to the next level. It feels good to be recognized as one of the top teams in the SWAC,” said Alcorn State President Alfred Rankins.
Hopson made history when he was hired as the first white head coach in Alcorn and SWAC history in 2012.
Heading into his third season, Hopson has compiled a 13-10 record overall and 11-7 in SWAC play.
The Braves finished 9-3 in 2013 with notable wins over Jackson State and Southern.
“This is truly an honor. We have a lot of work that we have to do in order to bring this school a championship. My coaches and I plan to put in our best effort to get our players in championship form,” said Hopson.
Hopson was nominated for the Eddie Robinson Award as best head coach in the FCS.
