Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee State senior running back Preston Brown suffered an apparent season-ending injury in TSU’s 37-7 win over North Carolina A&T at the Circle City Classic football game in the Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday October2, 2010.
Tests conducted in Nashville this week confirmed that Brown tore the ACL in his right knee during the third quarter. He injured the knee on a cut at mid-field and hobbled off the field. He subsequently re-entered the game and rushed one more time for an additional 43 yards before leaving the game for good. He finished the game with 146 yards on 19 carries.
Through five games Brown, a 5-10, 191 lb product of Antioch HS, was leading the Ohio Valley Conference in rushing with 150 yards per game and was ranked third in the country (FCS) in rushing. On the season, Brown had rushed for 760 yards with seven touchdowns (6 rush, 1 receiving). He had run for over 100 yards in the last four games, topping the 200 yard mark twice.
His 233 yard performance against Florida A&M helped the Tigers snap an eight-game losing streak to the Rattlers in the Atlanta Football Classic in the Georgia Dome on September 25th. The effort earned him MVP honors in the game and was also a new Classic rushing record.
Brown’s 219 yards against Jackson State in the Southern Heritage Classic in Memphis, Tennessee (9/11/10), was also a new rushing record for that event as well.
Brown will travel with the team to Southeast Missouri State on Saturday October 9th, He is scheduled for surgery next week and begin rehabilitation the following week.
