Denton, TX-The Texas Southern Lady Tigers had their hands full when they took on North Texas State in the first regular season game of the season.
It took TSU a half to get into a groove, but they stepped up and showed they could play with the best. “We got some confidence in the second half and began to stick to our game plan and make some plays,” said head coach Tamura Crawley-Marigny. “North Texas is a good team, but we saw we could play with them once we got aggressive and physical.”
The Lady Tigers are slowly coming together as a team under their new coach. Their communications and passing have improved since their exhibition game on Wednesday, but coach Crawley-Marigny says they need to be more aggressive, especially on offense.
“Right now we are a defensive team, led by Saycha Mitchell. We need to attack on offense and work harder on the field. I saw that in the second half and we’ll build from there.”
TSU fell 8-0 in this match up. They face TCU on Sunday in what promises to be another tough contest. But the Lady Tigers are up to the challenge. “This is a building time for us. These tough battles will hopefully make us tougher down the road. I know we need more shots on goal even against good teams, because you never know what might happen,” said Crawley-Marigny.
The Lady Tigers’ game against TCU starts at 1:00pm.
