Conference Race Heats Up
With all teams now entering their respective divisional and conference schedules, matches are becoming more important as the schedule winds down. The top four teams in each division will participate the season-ending SWAC Soccer Tournament, being hosted by Mississippi Valley State University.

UAPB’s Jade West and Nicole Parks-Powell are ranked in the top five in the nation in points and goals per game. West is second in points per game (2.63) while Powell is fourth averaging 2.5 points per outing. Powell is second in goals per game with 1.13 while West is fourth averaging one goal per outing.
Alabama State’s Chelsea Nash (12.57 spg) and Grambling State’s Cherie Silas (9.44 spg) lead a group of five SWAC goalkeepers who are in the top ten in saves per game. Nash leads the nation while Silas is third; Jackson State’s Allison Lane (8.5 spg) is sixth while Alcorn State’s Elaine Opusunju ranks seventh averaging 8.4 stops per outing. Univ. Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Bre-Ann Laypolle is ninth averaging 7.86 saves per outing.
