Why doesn't Pete get offered I-A Job opportunities

I do

All I can say is I hope GSU didn't GIVE this fool a degree. As much as we do the right thang as HBCU alums in protecting our little sister in North Louisiana with our legistators and lawyers, I really hope they are educating the students going there better than this. In fact, I know they are because I hang with too many that know the deal. I don't what happen to this dude. Perhaps, he majored in Grassology and minored in Crackology while matriculating at GSU-Geaux Southern Universtiy.

There is a popular Mardi Gras song that fits this dude: "Leave That Crack Alone"...

Peace!!!

bluedog,

We can name many more Southernites coupled with feats than the aforementioned. I will repeat, "we dont question Gramblings athletic "prowess." They have produced great athletes too. What we are addressing is this STUPIDITY that S.U. has "no tradition." What you posted is only the tip of the iceberg. I will not utilize the same ignorance as the Gramblingnite in this thread and say they have no tradition. I know better, you know better and the world knows betters. Really, this misinformed idiot dont deserve the responses that have already been given.

Dude, no one knows half of these people...... Just making it to camp doesn't count. Infact, this is a very short list.

G-man, please tell me you are kidding. Maybe you really are an idiot. They need to check the water up there b/c you're an idiot. Mel Blout, Rodney Milburn, Lou Brock, Bob Love, and more :( :( :( :( :( :(

I try to do something different here like getting back on topic Pete was offered the ULL job before Jerry Baldwin but they couldn't pay him the cash he wanted he also turned down the Kent ST job about 6 years ago. Outside off the top 61 or so most 1a don't pay as well as SU with all bonuses Pete made about 196K this year his coordinators made about 88k.

And I put the asterisk next to Issac Higgins name to give this fool a clue, other than the running back that Tampa had on the offensive side of the ball it was he and doug that carried them to all their division titles. :shame:

You always hear Doug Williams name come up when it comes to I-A coaching interviews. What about Pete Richardson. He has proven his much more than Doug through experience, wins, and championships. Also, he whoops up on Doug every year on national tv. I don't understand it.

I think it is generally lack of name recognition. Doug Williams has much more name recognition than Pete Richardson. Because he has a proven record at SU doesn't mean much beyond HBCU circles. Many HBCU coaches have proven records and they don't get looks from div I-A either. Doug Williams is getting looks because of his obvious NFL career and association with Grambling/Eddie Robinson, oh and by the way, he has resurrected a Grambling program that had, admittedly, fallen off for a few years.

Issac Higgins (or was it Hagans) had some early success at Tampa Bay but I don't think he was a factor when Tampa won the Division Title while Doug was qb. In fact, I don't think he was still on the roster. I could be wrong...that was some time back.

A TRIO of Tampa Bay's SWAC Receivers:

Player Years Recs Yards Avg Long TDs 100 Yard Games
Jimmie Giles 1978-86 279 4300 15.4 81 34 7 (Alcorn)
Calvin Magee 1985-88 114 1379 12.1 45 11 1 (S.U.)
Isaac Hagins 1976-80 83 1317 15.9 57 5 1 (S.U.)

12/16/1979 BUCS CLINCH FIRST-EVER NFC CENTRAL TITLE The Bucs defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 3-0 in a torrential downpour in Tampa to win the NFC Central Division and earn the first-ever playoff berth in team history. Neil O'Donoghue drills a 19-yard field goal for the game's only points as RB Ricky Bell gains 137 yards on the ground.

Jimmy Giles & Issac Hagins were Doug's Targets

I knew that Hagans was with the Bucs when Doug arrived on the scene. I recall during the days that Doug was being criticized for throwing too hard, Hagans had no problem holding on to the ball. In the early Tampa Bay years, Doug was hampered by John McKay's run oriented offense. It was Ricky Bell/Jerry Eckwood left, Ricky Bell/Jerry Eckwood right ...swing pass to Bell/Eckwood with an occassional deep low percentage bomb.

I believe Jimmie Giles (TE) played at Alcorn!

We're both half right its Isaac Hagins and he was there before doug. I think he played until 81'.

12/29/1979 TAMPA BAY WINS FIRST PLAYOFF GAME Led by RB Ricky Bell's 142-yard, two-touchdown performance, the Bucs defeat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-17 in their first-ever playoff appearance.

01/06/1980 BUCS FINISH ONE GAME SHORT OF THE SUPER BOWL The team's first playoff season comes to an end as the Bucs lose 9-0 to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game played in Tampa Stadium.

12/20/1981 BUCS CLINCH SECOND NFC TITLE IN THREE YEARS Tampa Bay wins an exciting showdown in Detroit, besting the Lions 20-17 and securing the NFC Central Division title. WR Kevin House reels in an 84-yard touchdown strike from QB Doug Williams and DT David Logan returns a fumble recovery 21 yards for another Buc score.

Apparently you did not look at my post Closely:

(You are correct Jimmie did play at Alcorn)

The League at one time had a bulls eye on the SWAC. I remember we use to be able to tell who was going to the NFL and would play. Now, in the SWAC the numbers are just not there. I could hear Howard Cosell now naming our colleges after a SWAC alum made a big play. I can see like yesterday Brent Musberger on the NFL today showing SWAC footage of prospects . I remember looking at the games with a different type of interest because our athletes were thrillers. Things have surely changed. I am not saying it is bad but surely different. We need to figure out a way to get more world class players. I was proud of the show that Southern & Grambling put on in the SUperdome this year. When S.U. broke out in those throw back jerseys, I was really pumped. It just reminded me of the good old days (kind of like that half time show for homecoming). O.K. I am finish preaching.......Let the "chiach" say..........Amen

I simply can't believe ignorance is that great. But, I'm glad you all have taken the time to drop a little knowledge, just in case I'm wrong.

I guess this is a modern day example of Black not being able to seperate SMACK, School Rivalry, etc.. from reality, HBCU unity and Black Power.

Peace!!
