I actually like this idea...

GR...Please inform me, what are the pros/cons of moving down to Division 2 when Division 2 schools have been/in the process of making plans for moving into D-I.

A move to D-2 means a decrease in sports needed to sponsor and a reduction of scholarships, which is a cost savings. I assume you'll say that scheduling would be easier since the SIAC/CIAA schools would be there.
Now, with a perceived better chance of competing as D-2 ... what are the downsides? Decreased exposure? Less sponsors than now? What television deal could we get that's viable (I know, several of us don't think the current TV deal is viable now)?

I would not say the TV deals that the SWAC/MEAC have are because of Division level but more because of market segmentation that the larger HBCU's attract. With said and/or true, we would still have those TV deals available with a move down.

you are assuming D2 will take you - it is not automatic - you have to apply and be accepted

So GR, where is JSU going? Are they going to D2 as well?

Actually I wouldnt mind if JSU went D2. The problem is there are too many HBCUs on the FCS level. Black people need to come together and consolidate our efforts so that we can all become better. We have no business turning students and athletes away from our schools. Who the hell are we to be doing that? It makes no sense (in theory) for Valley to be turning away anybody willing to come there to be a student athlete because of APR issues. The SWAC doesnt have academic standards so at this point it doesnt matter...but the SWAC in general would be so much better in D2....thats where the SWAC belongs. ....and the SWAC would be prosperous in D2 as oppose to being on the bottom (the worst conference) of D1
