I done heard so much about Leshawn Gary...

Mr. LeShawn Gary was my middle school band director. He started me on my way. Also, he showed me my first glimpse of Southern. Every since then I've been hooked. I've haven't seen him in at least 2 years. I don't know if he's still directing now since he left my middle school around 01.

Davis, Haughton, Taylor, and Liddell - all good directors. All knowledgable men with different specialties and areas of focus.

Unlike Davis, Haughton or Taylor, I think Liddell will never be considered a legendary band director by most "Sonic Boom" fans or alumni.

Jackson State's band hasn't been the same since Liddell took over. Jackson State had some awesome bands in the 1980's!

Everyone on this board knows what I mean when I say that an arrangement is written for power, so there is no need for me to change to any other word.

Furthermore, what people who have never taken time to observe Liddell'S band enough don't know is that the implementation of the marches was done soley because he wanted the band to go back to playing marches like Prof. Davis did when he was band director, as a matter of fact today's band has MORE marches in their book than Haughton or Taylors' bands EVER had.

Haughton and Taylor were good band directors, but let's not get carried away now.

Good directors but "let's not get carried away" ............................. :emlaugh: :emlaugh: :emlaugh: ..........................OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK! :goof: :goof: :goof: :goof:

Let's see where he ends up. I did not know Taylor that well, but the one thing that Davis and Haughton proved to be was teachable. Liddell is no ignorant guy.

That 84 show was live. I have give Dowell Taylor some props for that one. They came with. From Carribean Queen to Don't stand another chance by Janet Jackson. This isht was funky. Yeah them trumpets were nice. The cats they had in that section , especially the 1st trumpets were just nasty. SU, JSU, TxSU and TnState kept trumpets back then. They didn't rebuild just reloaded. LOL.

I remember the halftime, it rained the entire game.

I agree that Dr. Lewis Liddell has kept the Boom flowing in Jackson and they still have a great degree of respect around the nation. I don't see the dominance that I use to at halftime.

I am glad Jackson State is participating in the 2006 Honda Battle of the Bands. Fans will get the opportunity to see Jackson State is an average band and the only thing exciting about this band is there entrance and the "J-Settes".

The legacy of the "Sonic Boom"...
the MUSICAL legacy of the Boom was the Big Band sound and lush arrangements that began with the artwork of SIVAD...It was the thing the set the Boom apart from all of the other bands in the SWAC. The things that Haughton and Taylor brought to the table enhanced and built upon the foundation that had already been laid.

Cosign. The other thing I miss, is the sway the "Sonic Boom" had when they marched, those plumes going from left to right was mesmerizing!

I agree! This was an exciting part of JSUs band. What happened? Did Liddell cut that out or something?

On Friday, October 3rd, Bands of America's Eric Martin, Vice President and COO, was part of an educational panel discussion hosted by the NCAA Hall of Champions. Mr. Martin was joined by Directors from Florida A & M and Jackson State Universities, for the event. The FAMU and Jackson State Bands were in Indianapolis for the annual Circle City Classic Football Game. The presentation focused primarily on urban youth, discussing the in's and out's of being a member of a prestigious college band and the scholarship opportunities that many universities offer to band students. The audience, made up primarily of Indianapolis middle school students, were amazed at the presentations made by FAMU Percussionist Alshoun Rouse, and Jackson State Drum Major Tamara Myles. Tamara is the first female Drum Major in the history of Jackson State University. Also on the panel was Ms. Andrayana Getchell, former percussionist with the University of Nebraska "Cornhusker Marching Band" and current NCAA staffer.

Students, were toured through the "Drumline" exhibit at the NCAA Hall of Champions, allowed to interact and ask questions of the conference panel, then joined the panelists for a post-conference luncheon.

Bands of America memorabilia, including the original Grand National Championship trophy is on display in the lobby of the NCAA Hall of Champions through July as part of the "Drumline" exhibit. Look for the NCAA Hall of Champions booth at this year's Grand National Expo and when in Indianapolis, we encourage you to see the "Drumline" exhibit for yourself. Information on the NCAA Hall of Champions can be found online at NCAA.org.

???

The fugg are you talking about?

the Sonic Boom and the Marching 100 were inducted into the NCAA Hall of Fame on the same day. ... Where does this article say that that's not true. ... Are you really gonna dispute the FACT that JSU is in the NCAA Hall of Fame...

I hate when people pull sh*t out of their arse. Try this.... call the NCAA HALL OF FAME and ask them (317) 917-6222.

In related news the Boom will be participating in the WORLD MARCHING BAND CHAMPIONSHIP in South Korea in August. Then, we will issue our ANNUAL a** kicking of Grambling's sorry arse band in October... thanx.

The article doesn't say that they were inducted either... So your @$$ should call the office to get yours straight. Do that!!!! Since the University of Nebraska was on the "panel", does that mean that they were inducted too? Yawl just now traveling out the country?:lmao:

I don't march unless its for Civil Rights, and who said Grambling travels out of the country every year? Are you making that statement implying your deep envy that they have been out of the country more than SU's band has?

Are you sure about that?
I wouldn't go there. You may find the results are not what you thought. The Jukebox has been abroad. More than you realize.:read:

BTW,
I wouldn't brag when my band can't even make all the games on its schedule and asks people to finance their trip to a conference game or can't even take the whole band to Cincy for a Classic game.~snicker~

This has to be the dumbest statement I've seen around here in a while. :shame: :shame:

How did a "Sonic Boom" thread turn into a thread about which "Clampet Cajon CuZin" from Lou-anna has traveled more.:bawling:

:smash: ...Order in the court !!!!!!! :lmao.................

.................... :read:
