NOISE TALKA said:Here's four...
-Inducted into the NCAA Hall of Fame (1 of only 3 Black College Bands)
-Appearance at the NAACP Image Awards
-The band has almost doubled in size
-Nationally Recognized Symphonic Band (1 of the only HBCUs with a serious Symphonic Band)
Now I don't argue that Liddell is the greatest band director in JSU history. There are somethings that he could do that he doesn't do, but he's still a good director...and a excellent musician. point blank.

BLUEBENGAL said:Exactly, I think Liddell has really worked extra hard to keep the legacy of the "Sonic Boom" alive.
  :bowdown:dacontinent said:the MUSICAL legacy of the Boom was the Big Band sound and lush arrangements that began with the artwork of SIVAD...It was the thing the set the Boom apart from all of the other bands in the SWAC. The things that Haughton and Taylor brought to the table enhanced and built upon the foundation that had already been laid. I don't hear that any more, and it bothers me.

I don't know Dr. Liddell and have never had any dealings with him. However, I have made no bones about not appreciating the direction that the Boom has taken musically. Since I don't know him, I might just be ignorant. So, I have a request of you who have been in the program during Dr. Liddell's tenure.
Describe the legacy of the Boom for me and help me to understand how Dr. Liddell has kept it alive. Heretofore, the MUSICAL legacy of the Boom was the Big Band sound and lush arrangements that began with the artwork of SIVAD...It was the thing the set the Boom apart from all of the other bands in the SWAC. The things that Haughton and Taylor brought to the table enhanced and built upon the foundation that had already been laid. I don't hear that any more, and it bothers me. So, please, help me to understand.
I guess you forgot who your daddy is. It was less than 10 years ago that your directors and officials were on our campus humbly seeking how to build a program. We are your role model. The concept of how your program was built. We at Jackson State are very proud of the development and improvement of our child UAPB. But just like any father, every now and then you have to bring your child back to reality. Keep talking, it might be that time.FREAKKY_EX said:YEAH YEAH YEAH.....That's all well and good, but will he be able to save the BOOM from the Drunken Homecoming crowd in Pine Bluff????
Probably not...
But perhaps...

jaydog said:The arrangements are more simplistic because the songs are more simplistic. Compare a Lil Jon produced song like "Yeah" to a Earth, Wind, & Fire song like Getaway or Stevie Wonder's Sir Duke.
jaydog said:But as to what Liddell brings has done to enhance the legacy I will say this, despite what you may agree or disagree with musically, but he has kept the program strong and growing. He may not be the most dynamic figure ever to lead the Boom, or the most creative, but he has continued the legacy of excellent bands that was in place before he got there and will leave the program in probably the next 5 - 10 years in very good shape.
:smug: They don't have to ask us sh*t. :shame: Leave us (AlSt) out of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Red1 said:I don't think the 'Bluff crowd want any of the BOOM...ask AlSt... :emlaugh:

Are not like they used to be, in fact, Dr. Liddell personal vendetta for M4's Director Prof. Graham was realized in 2000. That forum you so aptly mentioned, was for directors to get a better understanding of WHEN and WHEN not to play during the game. JSU made that necessary for y'all are notorious for playing during a quarter with a certain song (The Show, 3rd quarter), in no penalties were called. Furthermore, it was a waste of time, because the Boom still does it.
