What are JSU Alumni saying about the Sonic Boom?

At JSU we don't compare the "Sonic Boom" to other bands, just previous editions of the "Sonic Boom". I guess the reason being, we know were are better than the other bands.

Must have heard someone from SU say that.. But yeah that's what SU been doing...Can't really say that about JSU being that they have changed to "try" to be more like SU...

Ummmm, ya'll not the only ones who compare themselves against themselves (from earlier band editions).

When you think about it: Who DOESN'T do that? What former band member doesn't hear an old head compare their days in the band to the current year?????

I marched almost 14 years ago, and we compared ourselves (or got compared) to the BOOM from the earlier years. So stop acting like ya'll are the only ones. :smh:

We are about the only ones that ONLY compare to ourselves.. Others like your school "probably" compare to your earlier editions but most of all still compare to other bands that are out there as well...

The only other band besides SU would probably FAMU that fit that bill 100%

Nice try though Crit...

Even if were true, WGAD???? I swear, ya'll bring up some of the stupidest stuff to argue about and try to stake claim on. NOTHING IS NEW UNDER THE SUN, not even that crap ya'll try to claim!

I still trying to understand this. Again, it seems to me like SU's style has changed too so how do they claim that. JSU can play all types of song, SU really could not with their previous make up. What should JSU do? Be like FAMU and play a rap song like they are playing "Mary had a little lamb?" The MAIN difference you see now is that songs like Lollipop were not out during the 80's so of course our sound had to change to play those things. Yes, it has affected the arrangement of other songs but there had to be a balance somewhere.

It's funny watching people who have such a disdain for "band geeks", but out the blue they know how bands should operate.

If the bands are so unimportant, why be bothered? Seems a little hypocritical to me...

Most COLLEGE band directors don't go for sectional challenges after leaving the stadium. Some drum sections do a funk train after the rest of the band marches through, but as part of the band's pageantry, not some immature challenge (I would think/hope). Any "challenge" or "battle" should have happened at the stadium.

Please explain what has changed at SU? SU's band concept is still the same. The Booms' not.

Uh, TP. What songs can or can't SU play that the 90's on back could or couldn't play?

The MAIN difference you see now is that songs like Lollipop were not out during the 80's so of course our sound had to change to play those things.

That's BS. Again...you're missing the proper perspective of this thing.

Yes, it has affected the arrangement of other songs but there had to be a balance somewhere.

For what it's worth, JSt's arrangements really haven't changed. The fact that the Boom tries to blow the lacker off their horns like an all-brass band now, has changed. In fact, you can make a case that they've gotten elementary compared to yester-year, arrangement wise. But, again...it ain't about that when folks speak on "the change" of JSt.

Dude, some of these SU folks can lie just for the heck of it. SU has changed dramatically, especially since Greggs left and Jackson arrived.
More women in your band, more woodwind instruments than you had in the past, and why? To play songs you couldn't play before and to add balance. Your band is still too horn and trumpet-heavy.

The lies just go on and on and on. Their band has deteriorated in less than one year after Greggs, yet they're too naive to see it or just plain too ignorant to want to admit it.

Now watch they come and make elementary jokes about ole JayRob to try take the attention away from the truth, which sad to say, is the norm for them. Oh well.....

Dude, if it's done in good taste, it's not immature, it's entertainment for the fans, young and old. This is why band fans stay long after the game is over, to watch bands like the BOOM march out and then do "funk train". Ain't nothing like it......THE EIGHTH WONDER OF THE WORLD!

You just don't get the point. A huge part of being in a Marching Band is discipline. In order for SU's percussion section to respond in the manner you wanted them to, they would have had to display a complete lack of both self control and discipline. They did however do a funk train back at their band room once they were released from their parade formation.

You should not tell half truths to make a point

More "tales from the jackazz"...

Everyone calls you "stupid" because you are!
The Jukebox went from a 150 piece band to almost 250 pieces. That means there was an increase in all instruments, including woodwinds.
And there have been females in SU's band since '89.
And Dr. Greggs has not been band director for 3 years.

You continue to prove each and everytime you post, that you are THAT stupid!

Is 150 DIFFERENT from 250 fatboy?! Well, I rest my case. SU HAS changed. I ain't gotta lie.

Oh, Crit, I did it for ya.
