What are JSU Alumni saying about the Sonic Boom?

JR, I can explain why it didn't move you. Either one of three things. One, you're getting too old and senile to feel the rhythm; two, you've been hangin around White folks too much; three, you're just in flat out denial; or four, all of the above. Take your pick.

It don't move me because the drums aint the same as they used to be. But you wouldn't know that. Also I am old school and times done changed......the funk aint there like it used to be to me in any of the drum sections I have heard recently including my own. But mainly due to the type of drums used these days. When Stagga and nem played in War and Thunder you could feel it. They were funky. I just don't hear that style of play anymore. But you are new school and you think this is the way things should sound. I don't. So that is my old school opinion. I aint moved.

Sorry to disappoint you. You are a casual fan. So I can understand you being enamored. As a former band member I aint. I know what things used to sound like. Roll old footage and you will understand what I am talking about.

Carry on.

I hate to interject but I saw a video of that "incident" and you are making it seem like SU got punked and that isn't the case at all. They were in formation and marching back to their band room and JSU insulted them. In order to respond they would have had to break ranks and lose their bearing to do it. I guess you do not know anything about marching band but that would have been against everything that you are taught the first day of band camp.

Carry on with the discussion

Blank..

This dude obviously isn't a college student or never was. He post like a 4 eyed nerd out the ghetto. If SU did that, I would be ashamed just like I know others that DID attend college would also be ashamed of that kind of action. But this supposed college grad (used lightly) condones this type of behavior.. Go figure..

Dude is a fraud, no one knows his stupid arse..

Dude, why do you have to contradict your OWN statement to try and make a point? First you say SU didn't get punked, then you say they got punked, but they didn't break ranks. Which is it Mr. AAMU alumnus?

There are ways to GET AROUND breaking ranks just in case you didn't know. When they finished marching, they could've responded THEN, but what did they do......they MEEKLY took their instruments and proceeded to head to the BAND HALL. This would've NEVER happened under Greggs.
That and THAT alone, proves that the SU program, after ONE long year, is not what it once was. They punked out and went back to their band room with their Jag tails between their legs.

Oh well, at least you tried, but failed to hold up the SU banner, to no avail. You need to be worried about that so-called band at AAMU before dipping into the business of the "Big Timers".:smh:

SEE!!!!

Tried to tell yall...

:smh:

So what did you want the band to do........fight each other? If that had happened then yall would have been on here saying the Jukebox was out of line. So they acted with class and ignored whatever chants the Boom threw out there and proceeded on about their business. Interesting. I shole remember how SU band was villafied for fighting PV's band on here by alot of JSU folks. But now when SU turns the other cheek........they are punks? Hell it aint like the Boom ran up on them and got into their faces or broke their ranks. It was merely a chant. If chants should cause some reactions then bands back in the day would have fought all the time. Oh well. This is so hypocritical. Aint none of these kids in either band like the old heads. So I aint surprised SU took the high road. Maybe SU 84 would have said something back.........but even back then........bands had more respect for each other. We were never that petty. All chants happened during the game and not afterwards. We all mingle after the games. I don't know where all this hate has come from. Well yes I do.

I only pray this dude don't influence no other human being with this way of ghetto thinking. Is this what they teach students at jsue?!?!

Let me ask you JayBird, what was SU band supposed to do? Undisciplined their selves, got out of line and cuss back at JSU?!?

Wow that would have been real professional with all those kids out there, which would have been awesome for alumni and parents with their little kids to see huh Jail err JayBird? Perhaps SU should have broken their lines started beating the crap out of jsue band so the little kids could have gotten a first class lesson on how to deal with Ignorant "WORDS"..

JayBird you are a wise dude brah....
I am now convinced this dude had no part in a college institution.

JR, JR, JR....where did I even hint that anybody should've fought? Please point that out to me. What I DID hint at was that your drum section was being "CALLED OUT", plain and simple, but they didn't want none, or that's what it seemed like to me and others. That's all I meant.

I remember the times the drum corps used to go at it before, at halftime and after games, right next to each other WITHOUT touching. They challenged each other with their style, showmanship and musical prowess, but it was all in fun. I was hoping the Jukes would've heeded the call to show up and show out, but they didn't. They "punked out". Nothing more, nothing less. Ain't got nothin to do with violence, thank you.

And one more thing....I never claimed to be "New School". I'm probably more "Old School" than you. Peace, bruh.

WTF!?!?!

First of all dumbarse we have drum sections in the HBCU world..

Second of all, you don't call another drum section out by saying.."Hey SU suck my _ _ _ _!!'
That is not how you ask for a challenge DUMBASS!!

My gawd, where yall get this dude from?!?!

.....LOL @ JR, SUtrp96,Terrell & PsychoJag.

Of all the folks that post on SP; is it me or do JSU got the most folks thats "out there"? I'm serious man, its some crazy iggas that went to/affiliated with that school. Now dont get me wrong; its some cool ssa folks on SP from there, but mannnnn......they got hella lunatics too. lol

JR, you're excluded from this comment, but can you other guys come up with something better and more intellectually challenging than cuss words and comments mimicking a pouting third grader? Since I know where Scotlandfill is located, I can understand if that's asking too much.:emlaugh:

Now back to the subject at hand.

It don't matter what they say to call you out, the fact of the matter is when they call you out, you come out or you punk out. I saw with my very own eyes what the Jukes did, along with dozens of others. They punked out right along with their football team.
I ain't gotta lie.:smh:

Real talk.....

JSU's band isn't what is once was. Thats no secret. So, starting a thread based on what's posted on the Clarion Ledger's website isn't anything you haven't already heard.

Yes, alot of Sonic Boom alums have been critical of the direction the band has taken, over the last decade or so. And while the band is still regarded as one of the best bands in the land (and arguably THE best from time to time), we recognize the product that's put on the field is not a 'perfect product'.

Personally, I believe "attitude reflects leadership". That's all I'll say on that.

The Sonic Boom is not what it can be. And it's not what what it once was. With that being said, it's easy to point-out the obvious irregularities and short-comings. I can talk all day about the things that need tweaking. And most of you have already pointed them out. We know what needs fixing. They know too. But the issue winds up being - whether the issues get fixed or not.

That's the source of most of our frustrations.

My frustration specifically involves shoddy execution. I know they can march better, but they don't. I know they can look better, but they choose not to. I don't see the pride in the uniform. I had a raggedy unifom when I was in the Boom. It was raggedy but it was always clean and pressed. I know they can articulate better, and that's even greater source of frustration. On certain tunes, the voicing and phrasing is perfect, while on others it's awful. I say, this is result of 'not demanding perfection' when rehearsing. The way you practice is the way you perform. If you 'half-azz' practice, you 'half-azz' perform.. But this isn't just a Sonic Boom issue, almost every other band also deals with this (to a certain degree).

You may've heard the saying, "The devil is in the details". This is so true when it come to marching bands. The time spent on details is usually the difference between a 'good' show and a 'great' show.. And that's what the Boom is lacking. Attention to details. Horn carriage, proper alignment, and basic marching fundamentals, the list goes on.

But..... With all of shortcomings, the band continues to dazzle the crowd and wreak havoc on opposing bands.

Because of this, I sometimes wonder whether there's any desire (from the current leadership) to work to improve the band. If the crowd is satisfied with mediocrity, why work harder, yanno? I hope that's not their mindset, but it might be. And that's not a good thing. We're already suffering from a lack of creativity (in drill designs). If we're not getting 100% from them, then we need a change. Especially when we can see a significant dropoff when comparing current bands to previous ones.

I want a better Boom....

And whether any of you guys want to admit it or not, you want a better Boom too....

Better bands mean better battles!!!!!

Now, argue with what I said if ya wanna....

Well said and about the ONLY post on this entire thread that makes sense, O.
While people are talking about how JSU alums aren't satisfied with the BOOM, there are some alums at their own schools who aren't happy with their bands.

There is work that needs to be done, but guess what??? The Boom isn't the only band. So while everyone is pointing their fingers and highlighting the obvious, they need to really worry about their own bands-- especially the author of this thread. Truth be told, nobody's band right now is on that level where they can be.

I would love to see a better BOOM, but I'd also like to see a better band from Valley, SU, Alcorn, A&M, Bama, etc. If you think your band is already on that level of kicking arse, you're fooling yourself. There's ALWAYS room for improvement. Every band has a weakness that needs to be worked on.

uuum, we all said the same thing T-Made said. We ALL admitted that we have problems and weaknesses but STILL hold our own.

Once again, either T-Made or Crit has to come in and clean up those "others" mess.

I have no idea why TP and JayRuby are in here...:smh: They typing like they're trying to get to the 50lb free base givaway.
