This topic was discussed on Houston sports radio 610 at the end of last week. A columnist here for the Houston Chronicle stated even if Vick cops a plea bargain and does a year or two in jail, he will NEVER QB another NFL team.

He stated that IF Vick returns he will be either a punt returner or kick off returner. The reason why he stated that Vick would never be a QB is because the QB is basically the face of the entire team. With Vick being personally involved with the killings of the dogs, an NFL franchise wouldn't want to take the heat from the community or corporate support they receive. He stated that a team such as team Texans would never pick up Vick anyway, but if they did they would probabaly loose the corporate suite rentals of companies such as Exxon, Shell, Conoco-Phillips, Halliburton, Schlumberger and others.

Just as Sperm stated previously, American as a majority pretty much love their pets, the people will view Vick as Barbaric and will never support him. He will be jeered in EVERY stadium he ever sets foot in again.

And let's be real, Vick is a public figure. "Those other cats" were/are not.

No, 200 people rallying for Vick is not a lot, but all I'm saying is that it looks really bad that people rallied for him and not those other guys. If you are going to rally, rally for Vick and his cohorts too.

Same with PETA, if they are going to protest against Vick, go into those other guys neighborhoods and protest there too.

Same with the NAACP, you don't hear about them telling people to lay off regular people who get in trouble for the same crimes.

We sure do. There have been other athletes or former athletes who have been accused of the same or similar thing. But they were not stars like Vick is. When a star athlete is accused of a crime or violating a sport's rule (i.e. steriod abuse in the Olympics), their case will get more coverage than most everyone else.

Who is Mike Vick? We as football fans, sports media and everyone else in between place value on certain people. If Mike Vick did not play in the NFL we would not care. But sense he does, we care. Like I said before, the other guys who were indicted were just thrown under the rug by those who had a strong opinion about this case. If it were just them folks on both sides would not want to investigate dog fighting, boycott the Falcons, playing the race card, blaming the media or all this other crap we all have been hearing for the last two months.

My parents don't know who Mike Vick is. They can't understand why people are making such a big fuss over this whole issue. All they know is four men are in trouble with the law and if they are guilty then so be it. That's the way it should be. Let justice run it's course and be done with it.

Life would be easier if we could have just been done with it. But it is not.

Michael Vick was one of the most popular and talked about players in the nation's largest spectator sport. Pro football has been the largest spectator and probably watched sport since the late sixties. Michael Vick was the face of a franchise, albeit one that has struggled a lot during its history, in a major media market. BTW he was the quarterback. The NFL is a multi-billion entertainment business. Now, he plead guilty to a felony.

I thought that the state of Virginia would seek to press charges also, so is he out the water yet?

If Billy Martin is worth what he is getting paid, my guess is that he had better have been negotiating that the part of the agreement was that there would be no charges filed by the State of Virginia. It would not make a whole lot of sense to plea out the federal charges only to have the state charges waiting on you when you are done.

I think the FEDS are involved because of the interstate gambling thats involved with betting on the dogs. Vick is LUCKY to go down for just dog fighting and not illegal GAMBLING.

In my view, it doesn't matter if it was COCK ROACH FIGHTING, if its illegal, then its illegal. If VICK or anyone else gets caught fighting COCK ROACHES, then they should go to jail. I don't want to compare COCK ROACH FIGHTING to human murder, war, or slaughter of cows & pigs. You knew COCK ROACH fighting was illegal before you got into it and just like anything else, DON'T GET CAUGHT!

Uh, this have already been discussed. Several times, but I do agree. There is alot of prejudice (not talking about racial either) involve in this. Like I said, I know plenty of people that does this. I've never seen PETA at their door steps and why dont they go to the Animal Control Center to protest when those pits that maul humans are killed?

They do protest, and generally blame people for the mauling since it's PETA's official position that animals should not be kept as pets.

Well, we live in a society that LOVES DOGS. I can sit on my front porch and between the hours of 5PM and 9PM, every other person walking the neighborhood will have a dog with them. Dogs are the primary pet of American society, so fighting dogs is going to be viewed as cruel and unusual punishment in the eyes of most Americans because Americans simply love dogs.

I HATE dogs. I tried to be a dog owner and now that I look back on it, I hated owning dogs. However, I would never want to see my dog fight. Not that its cruel, I just don't see the purpose.

I think people can raise and train pitbulls without fighting them. Mike just got caught.

Oh well....

I have a friend that is Half Black/Half White. She was visiting her the "Other Half Of her Family" in the area a few years ago. They treated their dog as if it was a human being or a family member and didn't even care for the young woman while she was in their home. :smh:

I can always tell just how important dogs are to folks, by watching the Animal Planet channel. Those animal police and the court systems go after folks that are cruel to animals, as if they're mass murderers. :|
