OK....

If the Chicago deal goes as expected, the Ocean will be flying to Chicago and be apart of a BOTB the day leading up to the game (Friday).

Grambling's band does not want to come to Houston unless Texas Southern or a sponsor pays for them to come to Houston. Two years ago, Grambling's Doug Williams (Missouri City) Alumni Chapter here in Houston came up with the cash to get Grambling's band to Houston along with some cash from the Texans so they could perform at their game on Sunday at halftime.

Man that's crazy .........NOBODY's school should cave in to this. It's not anybody's responsibility but GRAM's to get their band to SWAC cities.

Just slate a 15 minute show with some type of tribute to a TxSo Alum at the end. Halftime is done in 20 minutes.

You got it all twisted. These kids are here to get an education and they can't do that spending almost half a week riding on the bus to Chi. That's almost an 18 to 20 hr trip when you calculate fueling and meal times. Then when they get there it's hump and more hump without any time to recover. We've paved the way in earlier years and we intend to enjoy the fruits of such sacrificed labor.

....hmmph, I hear'ya mayne. Yall got'it bad!

C-Leb,

As crazy as it sounds, (and I have not confirmed this yet) the people that TSU/UAPB are working with are not the same promoters that worked with Valley and Gram. Take it for what its worth.

I'm speaking of classics sponsored by promoters not regular season games in which band directors and AD's or whoever makes decision regarding travel. Like someone else mentioned earlier why should 150 plus people trael 28 hours in 2 days. I think sponsors should consider flying teams and bands to any game that would require at least 8 hours of driving.

I agree a lil'bit but nine times outta ten, that aint happening. Now would your Administrators renege(sp?) on sending your band to wherever just because? I dont think so; cause if my memory serves me correct, didnt Honda bus PV to the ATL for the HBOTB's? a trip thats well over 10 hours! Yall didnt turn that invitation down, like yall to good to ride the bus.

Where did C-Leb say that TSU paid anything to get the Grambling Band to Houston?

GSU Alums along with the Houston Texans paid to get the band to Houston.

.............And my answer to that up there was ................

I said a Classic not a BOTB !

BOTB's, are not as mandatory as a football game

I didn't want to say this, but don't jump to conclusions. UAPB is taking 2 chartered flights Friday morning to Chicago. I do not think that was the sole reason, if so why would the promoter not pay for GSU's band to fly and pay for UAPB's band, which is probably 100 members larger to fly?

Instead of flying to Chicago, looks like GSU will be taking a bus ride to Ita Bena.

Different promoters are doing the uapb vs. txsu game. No Grambling will not go to Itta Bena.

Grambling is NOT a big name band here....
If it was reported on TV... newspapers on every commercial... it WOULD NOT affect attendence here.

*Grambling is more of a bigger name in Alabama than AAMU.
*If you believe that you know less than I thought.

I know quite a few.

Some PEOPLE are very delusional when it comes to how important their university (bands) is in the grand scheme of things. A twelve to fourteen hour bus ride is not the d@m Chinese Water Torture. You should be glad that somebody outside the GRAMBLING, LA. area would want to see your FOOTBALL TEAM/band in person since yaw git yo' azzez waxed on national t.v. every year. The institution should be glad that its still receives an invite to participate in a classic. You don't see students from out-state-complaining about their journey for an education. Know wonder Doug left. His qb was a cry baby and students and alumni whine about going to civillization to attend a football game. People will show up if Valley or Alcorn plays. So believe me, yaw ain't important. And for that give up on a classic game in a Chicago comment. The minimum attendance is 30,000. Thats pretty good for a non-hbcu region of the country. And don't let JSU be a participant. thats forty thousand easy. In fact its one of the better places to attend a game. The stadium is located off the lake, restaurants galore, take a boat ride on the lake/river like Twista (You're So Sexy). You can just kick it. People in the area actually appreciate HBCU's. The only real problem lately has been the the renovation of Soldier Field. A game has not been played in a couple of years. There is no momentum carry over from year to year so it may have be a little slow in getting the ball rolling. People are actually planning trips to Champaign to see FAMU play the Illini. People will show if Valley plays. So believe me, yaw ain't important.

The bold statement speaks volumes. Regional or statewide acclaim is the limit to your success. What is Chicago to a band that has performed for emperors and leaders from the Far East Japan (multiple occasions) to the west coast of Africa. Grambling is a Wonder of the World for American colleges and universities. Only amongst our own the aforementiioned quote transpires.

Playing in Chicago is like playing for NFL halftimes -- been there and done that -- if there is time we will fit you on our schedule! Being content and fascinated with Chicago is beneath us. But to some, this is most remarkable. We are Grambling!!!

Then, why spend all of this time, effort, and typing on something that you consider MENIAL?

They don't understand. Why settle? That's all I ask. Do you want 200+ of your student base to be on a highway for 28+ hours over a four day period? What if the bus breaks down? I guess some of us just need to set some standards. We already have ours. If you like it, we love it.

Here's a suggestion.

Why don't all of you all who need to assume why GSU's band is or isn't going anywhere just STFU!!!???!!! I swear that some of yall come up with the most ridiculous things when it comes to GSU.

Case in point:
~interesting~

....the message I'm gettin here is that Gramblings band think they are too good to ride the bus to Chicago; they must've requested to be flown.WTF-ever GSU!

No one said why problems arose.

The fact of the matter is that the band ain't going. The ish with AAMU is about 2 to three years old now, GIVE IT A FUGGING REST. THEY DIDN'T GO TO YALL, YALL DIDN'T GO TO THEM. MONEY WAS SAVED!!!! THE END!!!

BTW THIS IS THE SPORTS BOARD!!!!!!!!!!
